“Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.”
For years, you may have tried to “think your way” through pain, anxiety, or emotional numbness. You’ve talked about it. You’ve analyzed it. You’ve read the books. And yet something hasn’t shifted — not all the way.
There’s a reason for that. Trauma, stress, and unprocessed emotion are not stored only in the mind — they are stored in the body. In the tension of your shoulders. In the shallow pattern of your breathing. In the way your gut tightens when you walk into certain rooms. In the restlessness that won’t let you sleep.
This isn’t metaphor. It’s physiology.
“The body holds the wisdom. My role is to help you access it — gently, powerfully, and at your own pace.”
What Somatic Therapy Actually Is
The word “somatic” comes from the Greek sōma, meaning body. Somatic therapy is any approach to healing that engages the body as a primary resource — not as an afterthought, but as a partner in the process.
In our sessions, we don’t ignore the mind. We honor it. But we also listen to what the body is saying through sensation, posture, movement, and breath.
Signs Your Body Is Carrying What You Haven’t Processed
- Chronic tension in the neck, jaw, chest, or stomach with no clear physical cause
- Feeling “disconnected” from yourself or your surroundings (dissociation)
- Breathing that feels shallow, rushed, or held without realizing it
- Emotional reactions that feel bigger than the situation warrants
- A sense of being “frozen,” unmotivated, or unable to feel much at all
- Difficulty resting, even when you’re exhausted
The Gentle Path Back
Healing doesn’t require reliving everything. Going slowly is often what makes change possible. We work within your window of tolerance — enough activation to create movement, not so much that you’re overwhelmed.
Somatic work includes breath awareness, gentle movement, tracking physical sensations, and building a felt sense of safety in the body. Over time, your nervous system learns it doesn’t have to stay on high alert. It learns to settle. And when the body settles, the mind often follows.
